Message from the Board

To all Tennis Players on the Sunshine Coast,

Welcome to the Suncoast Racquet Club!  We are the only indoor tennis court facility on the Sunshine Coast and proud of what we've achieved for our tennis community.

The Suncoast Racquet Club is a non-profit organization, managed and operated by volunteers, financed by members, for the enjoyment of members and the wider Sunshine Coast community.

The Club started in 1991 in the Wakefield “bubble” with a few dedicated tennis enthusiasts.  Over the years many would come to call it home, both for physical exercise and social connecting.  In 2004, the Wakefield site was redeveloped and we needed to find a new location.  Our Club, in combination with the District of Sechelt, settled on a parcel of undeveloped land adjacent to the Sechelt Ice Arena, Sechelt Golf Course, and Kinnikinnick Elementary School on Lighthouse Avenue.  Over the following few years, a dedicated group of members developed the property and constructed our all-weather, steel building with 2 indoor courts on the land leased from the District.  Our facility opened to much fanfare in August 2008 and is now a valued asset on the Sunshine Coast.  We are indebted to the many members and organizations who made this possible.  A plaque recognizing their contributions hangs in the Club.

The Club has a varied membership of both working and retired residents of the Sunshine Coast.  We have a certified tennis coach for lessons and clinics for all ages and skill levels.  Tournaments allow the competitive crowd to test their skills. Numerous social events, such as drop-in play, pizza nights and BBQs, provide the opportunity to mingle and enjoy each other’s company.

Our programs put great emphasis on kids and youth development. Tennis is a game for life and through our youth tennis program, we hope to introduce many young people to the game of tennis on the Coast.

For those of you who are not yet a part of our tennis community, we invite you to join us.

If you are interested in trying it out, please contact Tamara Jacobsen to take advantage of our public open-play opportunities or Jacques Joyal if you want to get started with some 121 coaching …. the ball is in your court!
