Cougar Dome receives national grant from Tennis Canada

The Cougar Dome is the recipient of a grant to increase access to tennis for women and girls. The Cougar Dome (CD) is a local non-profit facility, managed by a volunteer board. It offers racquet sports, tennis and pickle ball, as well as a turf area for soccer, rugby, indoor softball training and other sports and a 260 meter track for walking and running.

Tennis Canada has selected ten programs to receive funding via the Game. Set. Equity.Community Tennis Grants presented by National Bank for fall and winter 2023. Terri Temelini, Director, Women & Girls Advancement, Tennis Canada says, “We know there is some incredible work being done to increase participation among women and girls and to deliver positive tennis experiences for them across the country.

This work at Cougar Dome will include engagement with local female-serving local organizations to assist the Dome in designing a program that suits the needs of the members of that community. Cougar Dome Facility Manager, Lisa McDonald, notes that creating an inclusive environment is a priority and this grant is an important step in creating programming for females in our area. She says, “Every week we welcome athletes of all ages (from 5 to 85) into our facility, they walk, run and play and have a great time doing so!” Tennis is an enjoyable life-long sport that can be experienced at any age. Along with tennis lessons, there will be the opportunity to experience pickleball, the indoor track and turf area while developing new skills in a fun and sporty environment. This programing will occur from January to March 2024. For more information, drop in, call or email the Cougar Dome if you’d like to learn more about this program.  (902) 843-4171 or email info@cougardome.ca
