History
History of Tennis in Windsor and the Windsor Tennis Club
Tennis has been played in Windsor, Nova Scotia and the surrounding area for well over 100 years. The Windsor Tennis Club is used by families, with members ranging from 4 to 85 years of age. Approximately 200 people use the facility on a regular basis – not including “introduction to the sport” activities and use by the schools. The club also opens the courts for use by local high schools and Kings’- Edgehill School for competitive play as well as for recreational use. This is an important benefit in a rural town where many community members can experience an organized sport at a low cost to their families. Tennis equipment (racquets and balls) are made available to those who cannot provide their own.
The courts are well lit at night due to our major fundraising project in 2018 that allowed us to replace all our outside court lighting. Courts are opened early morning until 10 pm accommodating individual schedules and needs.
The Windsor Tennis Club continues to enhance the social well-being of individuals, the well-being of the community members as well as the physical space, as important in providing enriching recreational experience to its participants. Many social activities for children, adults, families and seniors are held throughout the season to bring the members of our club together for fun and physical activity. Children as well as adults enjoy the supportive environment consistently provided by club members and staff. Our facility is close distance to schools and down town residential core. Many participants can walk or bicycle to the facility. Tennis definitely compliments existing recreational/sport activities by providing a three season outdoor experience that is inclusive for all citizens of the Windsor area.
Both The Town of Windsor and the Municipality of West Hants (Now known as West Hants Regional Municipality) have been very supportive in the past with donations to offset maintaining and upgrades to our facility and court surface. They certainly recognize the valuable service our organization provides to our communities, making our Town/Municipality a great place to live, work and play.
Our coaches are well trained and are caring supportive Instructors to all members of our club. They continue their tennis coaching and training year long.
Strong communities and organizations are built on many people working together and our Windsor Tennis Club recognizes the ongoing support of the Executive Members and Coaches as well as all of the parent, adult volunteers each and every year. These are the key players in our organization.
