FCTC PLAYER ETIQUETTE

  • Spin a racquet to determine who serves.  Winner can choose either to serve or receive, OR which side they would like, OR they can defer the choice.
  • Server should announce score at the beginning of each point.
  • If a ball from another court comes onto your court, roll the ball to the back of the other court,  without interfering with the play on that court.
  • Never walk behind a court when the ball is in play.
  • Do not hit balls that are out, but (especially at Parkade) do try to stop/catch the ball so it does not rebound onto another court.
  • Players call balls on their side of the court. Respect their call.
  • If you are unsure, then the ball is in.
  • Treat fellow members with courtesy and respect.
  • Bring a can of new balls. (Note: The Executive will usually provide balls, but bring a spare can in case balls get lost during play, or in case no Executive member is able to attend that day.) During COVID, some players may select to serve with their own balls; please do not touch those balls with your hands (use racquet or foot only).
  • Turn down the volume on your cell phone.
  • Wear appropriate tennis clothing.
  • Shake hands after each match (before putting down racquet). Note not during COVID!
