The Capilano Calcutta:

* eight mixed doubles teams. 

* round robin no ad  doubles  in two flights - red and blue.

* teams (8 men and 8 women) are first selected through a public lottery draw 

* teams are created using a seeding process.  

The Calcutta Tournament is preceded by a live public auction,  where the selected players and all club members have an opportunity to bid on the team they think will win.  If players own their team, they keep the cash prize if they win. ( There are cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd).  Club members  who are not playing who successfully bid for a team will receive 50% of the profits of their winning team.
