Welome to the Tusket Tennis Club!
Indoor clay court tennis since 2008.
We are a private club located in the village of Tusket in SouthWest Nova Scotia offering our members year-round indoor tennis on a Har-tru clay surface!
Our Story
Our story begins with our founder and owner Hubert Pothier. Hubert and his wife Phyllis began playing tennis in the early 80s and introduced the sport to their kids Jackie, Paula, Marcel and Jeannine.
Throughout the 90s and into the 2000s, Hubert continued to develop his love of the game and evenutally found himself making the 3-hour to drive to Halifax every week to play indoor tennis through the winter.
In 2007, he started making plans to repurpose his vacant buidling in Tusket which had been the previous location of his automotive body shop. With his plans in place, he set to work enlarging the floor and raising the roof of the old body shop building to accomodate a tennis court, and he redesigned the front office into an observation lobby with washrooms and showers.
Having played on clay Har-tru courts in Halifax and the US, he knew that a clay surface would be the most forgiving on his knees and joints. He decided to source out some Har-tru and expertly laid down the surface of his court with clay.
Finally in December of 2008, Hubert opened the Tusket Tennis Club as a private, membership-based club.
The club began with a handful of members and has since grown to a membership of over 30.
In recent years Hubert's son, Marcel, has assumed some of the responsibilities of managing the Club. Marcel became a certified Tennis Canada Instructor in 2018 and has since started a modest Junior tennis program along with member-coach Calvin Smith.
In 2021, the Tusket Tennis Club became a member club of Tennis Nova Scotia and Tennis Canada, and we've had the privilege of welcoming Tennis NS staff to our club to run some tennis programming!
Membership Waiting List
Unfortunately, we are currently at our member maximum and we are unable to accept additional members.
However, we do have a membership waiting list as some members do not always renew. The current waiting period is about 8-12 months.
