The first and only Mixed Doubles Tournament of the season happened on Saturday August 23rd, and we had a great turnout of 6 teams competing old-skool full round-robin style, with each team playing 5 matches that consisted of one superset to 8. It was a fun day with lots of great matches!

The teams were:
1. Steve Brown/Lacey Brown
2. Paul Morgan/Susan Cater
3. Bob Milne/Kelly Rideout
4. Heather MacArthur/Glenn McMullen
5. Lanying Zhao/BJ Parnell
6. Kelly Miller/Alan Miller

The final results were:

1. Heather MacArthur/Glenn McMullen (First Place)
Prize: Mutant GMO Cantaloupe from an undisclosed location
Team Quote of the tournament: “We continue to attribute all our success to one person - Carol D'Entremont - for dropping out of the tournament for a second year in a row and continued vulnerability around bribery by the NS Tennis Open scheduling team!” - Glenn & Heather

2. Steve Brown/Lacey Brown (Second Place)
Prize: Andre Agassi Autographed Sneakers from 2006 (considered to be only lightly worn by Glenn’s sneaker standards). Currently being proudly displayed at the Brown’s home in a secure “biohazard” labelled area of the basement.
Team Quote of the tournament: “It was so exhilarating playing matches with people over 8 years old!” - Lacey

3. Lanying Zhao/BJ “Monsieur Cinnabonbons” Parnell (Third Place)
Prize: Mutant peppers
Team quotes of the tournament:
“Sure, I’ll play a ladder match at 7:00 am before the actual tournament starts - sign me up!” - BJ
"Your line calls are terrible BJ - that was WAAAAAAY out" - Lanying

Additional Awards:
Best Trash Talker: Susan Cater (Prize: horse mouth)
Best Buns: Monsieur BJ Cinnabonbons
The Golden Bagel Award (sponsored by Carl’s Independent Grocer): Alan and Kelly Miller

Notable moments:
Monsieur BJ Cinnabonbons threw caution (and pending charges) to the wind in the last match of the day refusing to follow the court order preventing him from shaking his bonbons.

This event has now set the bar again for 2026, when we will attempt to do it all again - only with even worse prizes and greater insults!

THANKS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS.
