About the Club
South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1887. It is one of the oldest lawn tennis clubs in the world and the oldest lawn club in Canada. The club received its B.C. Heritage Site designation in 1992, and celebrated its 100 years of operation in 1987. We take great pride in our beautiful facilities and heritage. This historic lawn tennis club is a wonderful legacy that is cherished by generations of tennis players.
FACILITIES
The club has a total of 9 courts - 7 grass, and 2 outdoor hard courts. Our playing season starts mid-May to mid-September. Our outdoor hard courts are playable all year round. The grass courts are maintained on a daily basis. Court #1 is the Heritage Court occupies the prime spectator spot in front of the clubhouse's large veranda.
The clubhouse offers a lounge area with a fully licensed bar, TV, wifi, kitchen, washrooms and shower/changing facilities. There is a large veranda overlooking the courts with a view out to Cowichan Bay and mountains of Saltspring island beyond. The clubhouse is surrounded by mature trees, herbaceous gardens, and lawns where spectators can sit to enjoy the play or just take in the spectacular scenery and wonderful ambiance.
BOOKING POLICY
Members can book courts online every day for up to 2 hours, 7 days a week. Courts can be booked up to 7 days in advance, Members are responsible for cancelling their own court bookings, if they are unable to make their reserved time. In addition to your court bookings, members can also sign up for any event offered by the club.
VISITORS
Any visitor is welcome to try out the club facilities for a maximum of 3 times, for a cost of $25 per visit per calendar year. As a guest of a current member, visitors can access club facilities for a maximum of 3 times, for a cost of $20 per visit per calendar year. Please note: each visit is limited to up to 2 hours.
