Members' Update September 23, 2021

NEW WESTMINSTER TENNIS CLUB

MEMBERS’ UPDATE

Edith Webster Memorial Tournament and Covid-19 Clarification

There appears to be some misunderstanding about why the clubhouse is shutdown.

We have no paid staff nor do we have sufficient volunteers to check for proof of vaccination upon entry into the clubhouse. Accordingly, in order to comply with the PHO and TennisBC protocols we have been left with no choice but to keep the clubhouse closed until such time as we have received proof of vaccination from all members.

For example, if you are attending at an exercise or tennis club facility that is open, it is only because they have the staffing facilities required by the Province.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding some members may have as to why the club is closed. But, the club will be open for the Edith Webster Memorial Tournament (the Tournament), because there will be volunteers at the front door checking for proof of vaccination upon entry into the clubhouse.  If you wish to come into the clubhouse during the Tournament, please make sure you have such proof.  Some members have already provided their proof by way of an email.  If you have not already done so, you might also try forwarding a copy to admin@nwtennis.com.

The date of the Tournament has been changed to Saturday, September 25th, 2021, instead of Sunday, September 26th, due to forecasted weather changes.

Please come out on Saturday and enjoy the matches and cheer on our New Westminster team.

You can enter the clubhouse for the purposes of the tournament as long as you are able to provide proof of vaccination.  Keep in mind this may well be your last chance to provide in-person proof of vaccination before year end.  Once the Board of Directors has established compliance with the vaccine regulations amongst the membership, some form of reopening the clubhouse will be entertained. Having said that, there will be no social functions at the clubhouse at this time.

Again, the Tournament is an exception to this rule because there will be someone at the clubhouse entrance to check for vaccine passports from all those entering the clubhouse.
