Project RE-Bounce!

Capilano Tennis Club is Now Part of Project Re-Bounce!

We’re proud to share that Capilano Tennis Club is now participating in the Sporting Equipment Diversion Program—a sustainability initiative led by Urban Impact in partnership with Project Re-Bounce.

This program helps keep end-of-life tennis balls and other sporting equipment out of landfills by directing them to Metro Vancouver’s Waste-to-Energy facility, where they are converted into electricity. Since launching, Project Re-Bounce has expanded across B.C., diverting thousands of pounds of waste and making a real difference in reducing environmental impact.

What This Means at CTC:

A clearly marked collection bin is now available outside the clubhouse for the following tennis-related items:

🎾 Tennis balls

🥫 Tennis ball cans, lids & pull tabs

🎾 Racquet strings, grips / overgrips, broken or unusable tennis racquets

👟 Tennis clothing, sports shoes & swimwear (beyond donation quality)

♻️ All items must be at end-of-life (no longer usable or donatable). Please donate gently used items through appropriate channels.

This program complements our existing recycling and composting systems—and helps prevent waste that would otherwise take hundreds of years to break down.

Why It Matters:

Tennis balls take over 400 years to decompose. When they end up in landfills, they release methane, a greenhouse gas 25x more potent than carbon dioxide. By participating in this program, we’re helping to build a cleaner, more sustainable future for our sport and community.

How You Can Help:

Use the designated bin for tennis balls and other approved items.
